Rogers New Menu Quick Start Guide

Last night I discovered Rogers "enhanced"some features I enjoy on my HD box. Previously I hit the GUIDE button and it would take me immediately to the program guide. Now when you press GUIDE a  Quick Start menu appears giving access to a variety of features, Some features make a lot of sense for example you can now reboot your box without unplugging it from the wall. Though if your cable box is hung I'm not sure you'll have access to the menus.

My kids enjoys playing the video games that you can access from the quick start menu.

To access the program guide press the GUIDE button twice. Don't double click select too fast or not much will happen. The program guide is not very fancy but it works. It reminds me of the old Telidon  services from the early seventies.

The improved services have been rolling out since mid-January. Subscibers are venting on line

It's utterly useless, and causes an extra click to get to the guide itself (which is nothing to brag about in the first place). - alandh

seems more of a downgrade to me. - shieze

The more I use this the more I am annoyed. - Eug

Is there any way to get rid of this "Quick Start" Garbage!!!! I'm already paying Rogers, I don't need to be bombarded with Rogers advertising every time I want the program guide! Plus having to press guide twice to get into the guide is not fun. Bring back the old way - realtycoon

it sucks i hate it. - actng

What a useless feature. Seems the marketing types had an idea that this might make you more likely to find/buy their On Demand offerings. All it means to me is an extra click to get to the IPG, which has not changed. - frankied

I absolutely despise this feature -dcomp11 The quick start menu is horrible. I wish there was a way to disable it. - craiger

I find it quite useless and annoying. - klondike

In the department of ironically named features... comes Rogers' new "Quick Start" menu. This replaces the normal handy dandy program guide with a new menu system with links and some minor new features:

* Link to the actual program guide
* Link to the recorded programs menu
* Links to so-called "mix" channels, which are 6 PIP screens for news, sports or kids. You can change the audio by moving the cursor from PIP window to window. These, however, are accessable as normal TV channels and don't require the menu system.
* A nested menu system with all HD channels sorted into categories... even the ones you don't get. Also a similar menu for On Demand channels.
* The weather (considering that if you have a cable box you also have the weather network...)
* 4 rather small games
* A link to reboot the box (actually this could be handy, save for the fact that the menu is probably not going to be working right when you need this)

So, it's all kind of useless fluff. The problem is that the GUIDE button now brings this up. If I want the actual program guide, which I use countless times every day, I have to hit GUIDE a second time (but not too quickly - you have to wait a couple seconds for the screen to load or it does nothing).

Of course what's most irksome is that the remotes that Rogers uses have two particular buttons: GUIDE and MENU (plus of course LIST and SETUP). Previously, these both did the exact same thing: bring up the program guide, because there wasn't anything else for MENU to do.

Now? They both bring up the Quick Start menu. Why didn't they put Quick Start on MENU? Or if they wanted to force current in-a-comfortable-routine customers to see that by default, they could have at least put Guide on MENU.

I tried calling Rogers twice, just like accessing the program guide.

Both attempts to to speak to someone didn't work, I was disconnected from their phone system twice. Over the last few years Rogers has dropped many services I enjoyed. Yahoo Briefcase, Flickr account and free incoming text messages. Those letters I get every mother week from Bell Canada wanting me back will receive a little more attention

I can't believe they have the nerve to actually put an ad banner on the cable box to rake in even more money, people paid too much for the box and they're paying for overpriced cable.
